Описание
7 Classic Rock Miniatures began with Movement 5, Bricks Up Close. Bricks Up Close was originally conceived for a Vox Novus 15 Minutes of Fame call for scores for a one minute saxophone quartet piece. Bricks Up Close is based on and inspired by the songs Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull and Come A Little Bit Closer by Jay and the Americans as it combines asymmetrical meter, as seen in the middle section of Thick as a Brick and the Bossa Nova-like feel of Come a Little Bit Closer.

Bricks Up Close was not selected for that particular call for scores; however, it garnered much interest once Nash promoted it on social media, to the point where Nash decided to compose 6 other miniatures around it. Each movement is based on and inspired by Classic Rock standards, such as Don’t Stop Believing by Journey (mvt. 2), Foreplay/Long Time by Boston (mvt. 3), Is it Love? by Whitesnake and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World by Prince (mvt. 4) and Kashmir by Led Zeppelin (mvt. 7). The 7 miniatures display fast, slow, fast, slow, fast, slow, fast format. The fast tempo movements all feature mixed meters, as well as driving and highly syncopated bass lines in the bari sax parts in which the melodies in the upper 3 parts are all analogous the bari sax bass line. Movements 2 and 6 are in triple meter whereas Movement 4 displays septuple meter, with alternating measures of 4/4 and 3/4.
