Description |
Four Jovial Miniatures for brass octet features four movements, which are all 2 and 1/2 to 3 minutes in length. The four movements all demonstrate energetic and dance-like music. Movement 1, “Fun and Frivolity” is a fast tempo with an R & B/jazz feel, using those types of melodies, harmonies and rhythms, along with going between triple and quadruple meters. Movement 2, “Warm Fuzzies” is a slow movement in triple meter, featuring lyrical melodies from the euphonium and trombones. Movement 3, “Worldly Dancing”, marked “Fast and Intense, Quasi Jazz/Swing, is in a fast compound duple meter, based on and inspired by West African folk music and the only movement in a minor mode. Movement 4, “Swan Song” begins with a slow introduction and progresses to fast music, also reflecting R & B/jazz music by way of melodies, harmonies and rhythms. |
