| Description |
| Archer Overture for band/wind ensemble is a 6 minute celebratory composition, commemorating the 50 year anniversary of the Vienna, VA Community Band. The title stems from Principal Louise Archer, who was principal of what became Louise Archer Elementary School, a permanent black elementary school in Vienna, VA. Written in Eb Major in 6/8 meter, Archer Overture features a festive and heroic melody, initially stated by the low brass, after a percussion introduction. This motive builds and progresses throughout the remaining instruments, as well as the composition as a whole. It has a Rondo-like formal structure, ABCBDCA, with percussion interludes articulating a few of those sections. |
